Meta launches paid “vitamined” versions of Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp
Those who subscribe to the new paid plans for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp will benefit from improved features on these three platforms.
At a time when AI is swallowing up more and more of Meta’s financial resources, the company has decided to introduce paid subscriptions to its most important apps to explore new avenues of income other than advertising.
The company led by Mark Zuckerberg will soon launch Plus versions of Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. Those who subscribe to the new paid Plus plans of these three platforms will benefit, among other things, from improved analytics and metrics and options to customize the user profile on these three platforms.
Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus and WhatsApp Plus will soon be launched around the world, as announced yesterday by Naomi Gleit, Head of Product at Meta.
The paid version of WhatsApp will be somewhat different in terms of extra functionalities from Instagram and Facebook and will mainly provide the user with different customization options (exclusive «stickers» and ringtones, for example).
In March, Meta already launched Instagram Plus in test mode in some markets where the company currently operates. Subscribers to the «vitamined» version of Instagram can see who has seen, for example, their «Stories» anonymously and also see which people have seen their publications and have not, however, returned the «follow.»
Meta’s new payment plans will cost between $3 and $4 per month
Meta has not provided specific details about the pricing of the new paid Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp subscriptions. However, according to the information considered by some media, Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus will cost $3.99 (3.40 euros) per month. And WhatsApp Plus will, for its part, cost $2.99 (2.60 euros) per month
More in the long term, Meta also plans to launch paid subscriptions for its AI models that will be covered under the umbrella of the Meta One brand. And by paying $7.99 per month (Meta One Plus) or failing that $19.99 per month (Meta One Premium) users will be able to unlock advanced Meta AI features.
In Europe, Meta’s paid subscriptions are not exactly new, as the company already introduced paid versions of Facebook and Instagram in 2023 that were conveniently freed from the yoke of advertising. Meta launched these paid subscriptions in the old continent to comply with European Union regulations regarding data protection. When accessing Facebook and Instagram on European soil, the user is confronted with two different options: a paid version without advertising and a second free variant without ads.
