Meta presents «Muse Spark», the AI with which the company wants to unseat its rivals

Meta’s new AI model, which stands out for its small size and speed of response, is multimodal in nature.

Meta is going all out in the highly competitive artificial intelligence (AI) market, where it aims to stand out (and ultimately leave its rivals behind) with its new «Muse Spark» model. This new AI model is the first product to emerge from Meta Superintelligence Labs, a newly created team that Meta launched last year. With it, the multinational led by Mark Zuckerberg aspires to gain momentum in the AI industry and overtake its competitors in this field.

«Muse Spark» will initially be available solely through the Meta AI app and its associated website. In the coming weeks, this new model will replace the LLaMA models that currently power the chatbots integrated into WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and the company’s smart glasses.

Meta’s new AI model, which stands out for its small size and speed of response, is multimodal in nature and is capable of answering complex questions related to areas such as science, mathematics, and health. “Its foundation is very powerful, and the next generation of ‘Muse Spark’ is already under development,” asserts the parent company of Facebook and Instagram.

Meta’s stock price has soared following the unveiling of “Muse Spark.”

“Muse Spark” boasts advanced reasoning capabilities and visual intelligence, representing a step closer to the long-sought goal of artificial superintelligence. Because it is highly focused on visual interaction, “Muse Spark” supports visualization in the thought process and the orchestration of multiple agents and tools.

To refine the performance of its new AI model, Meta has relied on reinforcement learning to improve the accuracy of its responses and its reasoning capabilities.

The new AI model also prides itself on being exceptionally safe and, according to Meta, demonstrates “robust rejection” in high-risk areas such as biological and chemical weapons. Furthermore, “it lacks both the autonomous capabilities and the dangerous biases that would be necessary to materialize threat scenarios,” Meta emphasizes.

The unveiling of «Muse Spark» has had a positive effect on Meta’s stock price, which jumped 6.7% after the official announcement of the new model.

Like other companies operating in the AI arena, Meta has invested heavily in this field. Last year, for example, the company signed a multi-billion dollar deal worth $14.3 billion with the AI startup Scale AI.

In recent years, Meta has also attracted expert AI engineers with lucrative salary packages worth hundreds of millions of dollars, with the ultimate goal of working on the development of so-called superintelligence—intelligence that matches or surpasses that of human beings.
