Amazon unveils Leo Ultra and accelerates the race for enterprise satellite internet

Amazon presents Leo Ultra, its high-speed enterprise satellite dish, now in the testing phase ahead of its global launch in 2026.

Amazon is taking a significant step into the satellite internet market with Amazon Leo Ultra, its new high-speed antenna designed for enterprise customers. With download speeds of up to 1 Gbps and upload speeds of up to 400 Mbps, this full-duplex antenna offers advanced performance, low latency, and the ability to integrate seamlessly into existing corporate networks.

The launch is accompanied by a private trial program for select companies, including JetBlue, Hunt Energy Network, Crane Worldwide Logistics, Connected Farms, and Vanu Inc. This trial phase will allow these companies to experience Amazon Leo’s high-speed connectivity before its wider commercial rollout in 2026.

Amazon Leo, formerly known as Project Kuiper, already has more than 150 satellites in orbit, aiming to bridge the connectivity gap in sectors where internet access is limited or unreliable, including energy, transportation, manufacturing, and media. The company emphasizes that its goal is to offer secure and private services, with direct integration to Amazon Web Services and the ability to establish interconnected private networks (PNIs) to accelerate critical business processes.

Ultra, Pro, and Nano: Solutions for All Types of Businesses

In addition to Leo Ultra, the company has also developed the Leo Pro and Leo Nano antennas, with speeds of up to 400 Mbps and 100 Mbps respectively, offering alternatives tailored to different business sizes and connectivity needs. The Ultra stands out not only for its performance but also for its durability, as it can withstand extreme temperature, wind, and rain conditions, and its design without moving parts facilitates installation and maintenance.

Amazon Leo hardware incorporates a custom silicon chip, proprietary radio frequency technology, and advanced signal processing algorithms that guarantee optimal performance for demanding applications such as videoconferencing, real-time monitoring, and cloud computing. Furthermore, the antenna includes 24/7 customer support and network management tools for enterprise use.

Direct Competition with Starlink

With the arrival of Amazon Leo Ultra, Jeff Bezos’s company is positioning itself as a direct competitor to Starlink, which until now dominated the low-Earth orbit satellite internet market. Unlike Starlink, Amazon Leo will initially focus on enterprise and government customers, prioritizing private networks and high-performance services before expanding to the general public.

According to Chris Weber, Vice President of Amazon Leo: «We designed Amazon Leo to meet the needs of the most demanding enterprise and government customers, providing them with the tools to transform their operations, no matter where they are in the world.»

With this move, Amazon Leo seeks to establish itself as a leader in enterprise satellite internet, offering speed, security, and reliability in an increasingly competitive and strategically important market for global connectivity.
