OpenAI recruits the creator of OpenClaw, the AI agent everyone’s talking about
Peter Steinberger has been recruited to help OpenAI develop the next generation of AI personal assistants.
Austrian-born developer Peter Steinberger has caused a huge stir in the tech industry (usually dominated by Big Tech) with OpenClaw, a revolutionary open-source AI agent. His talent has certainly not gone unnoticed in the AI field, so much so that Steinberger has just been hired by OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT.
Steinberger’s creation, which has achieved unexpected success and has been the talk of the town for several months, allows users to create their own autonomous AI assistants.
Although Steinberger’s phenomenal invention initially hatched under the names Clawbot and Moltbot, it was the name OpenClaw that definitively catapulted it to stardom.
Being open-source software, OpenClaw can be seamlessly integrated into the user’s own hardware. Over the past few weeks, many users have connected OpenClaw to WhatsApp, Slack, iMessage, or Gmail to have an AI assistant at their disposal that manages their calendar and email completely autonomously.
Steinberger will help OpenAI develop its next generation of AI personal assistants.
By hiring Steinberger, OpenAI hopes to boost its efforts to enable ChatGPT and its various AI tools to perform tasks fully autonomously.
«Peter Steinberger is at OpenAI to help us develop the next generation of AI personal assistants,» explained Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, on the social network X.
Steinberger, who spent a few days in San Francisco before finalizing his move to OpenAI, will join the Codex team, one of the most strategically important divisions of the American startup.
OpenAI, which is currently facing increasing pressure from rivals like Google and Anthropic, was not the only company to court Steinberger. The Austrian developer also reportedly received offers from Meta and Anthropic, according to the German business daily Handelsblatt.
